Samsung SIV, a brief review.

The Samsung Galaxy SIV is almost here, its pre-orders are through the roof with a reported 446% on its predecessor the Samsung Galaxy SIII, but is the whole hype justified? is it worth buying? read more to find out.

It has become tradition for smartphone manufacturers to release a new model every year with hope to gain a larger stake of the smartphone market. With its innovative Galaxy range, Samsung has put up a good fight to gain more of the market from its nearest rival, Apple. However, Samsung’s latest offering may be seen as a passed up opportunity to reinforce its position in the industry. The tabled comparison below highlights Samsung failure to majorly improve on the previous generation.

  Samsung SIV Samsung SIII
OS Android 4.2.2 Touchwiz UX/US Android 4.0.1 Touchwiz UX/US
Processor 1.9 GHz Quad-Core Processor 1.4 GHz Quad-Core Processor

Battery 2,600 mAh 2,100 mAh

As an owner of a Samsung SIII, I am left unimpressed and disappointed. Although the SIV performs slightly better with its faster processor and an elongated battery, I just expected more of everything else. A bigger RAM, wireless charging and a much more improved camera a la Nokia Lumia would have been welcomed additions. Even the appearance leave a lot to be desired as both phones look almost identical.

Furthermore, the operating software that comes with the SIV can also easily be downloaded on the SIII as an update.

My frustration with the SIV is it is far from the revolution I wanted to halt the competition but rather just an evolution at the same high price. Rose B. from Gizmodo argues the same point “There are small spec bumps from the previous generation and there’s a ton of software which will largely sit unused. There’s just no wow-factor here…you feel like you’re holding an S III with a few extra bells and whistles”.

Verdict: If you do not own an SIII, sure buy it. If you do, I would recommend you to wait for the next one.

  1. I really liked the videos about the Google glasses they are really cool and it gives you sense of what it may be like wearing them. I also liked how you compared the S III & S IV.
